Waco’s First Authentic Italian Café Opens
[Owners of Moroso Italian Ristorante importing Italy’s No.1 coffee]
Waco, TX, Oct 18, 24 – Eight years ago, Dan and Robyn Moroso opened their doors at Moroso Italian Ristorante, the first authentic Italian restaurant with Neapolitan, wood-fired pizza in Waco. Today, they celebrate the grand opening of the first coffee shop in Waco to offer a true Italian experience, offering Italy’s number one coffee, illy. The café is named AZZURRO, the Italian word meaning sky blue. It’s next to their restaurant at 4700 Bosque Blvd. in Market Square shopping center, across from the Extraco Events Center.
illy coffee is in 140 countries around the globe. They are one of the top ten most ethical companies in the world. They select only the top 1% of Arabica coffee bean crops from South and Central America and maintain a priority of sustainability, giving back to the coffee farmers. illy buys directly from the farmers they work with, removing the brokers who take a percentage of the farmer’s income. So, the farmers make more money for their crops. illy also supports the coffee farmers by providing medical and dental care, among other resources designed to enrich their lives.
Owner Dan Moroso started planning AZZURRO two years ago.
“Robyn and I wanted to share a true Italian café experience with our community, so I reached out to Italy’s finest coffee company, illy. When they agreed to work with us, I was over the moon. I grew up with illy, I drink it every day. I think it’s the best cup of coffee. It’s rich, but so balanced with no bitter aftertaste”. The illy company is in Trieste, Italy, the province (Friuli) where Dan’s family is from. “I’m delighted to share the coffee my family has been drinking for generations with Waco”.
AZZURRO offers all the classic Italian coffee beverages, a large variety of cold and blended drinks, and seasonal recipes. Service hours are Monday through Saturday, 7 AM ’til 2 PM. The café also offers freshly baked pastries, salads, egg bites, wraps, Italian sandwiches, and fresh juices. A grab-and-go option is also available. Indoor and outdoor seating is available. The interior décor is distinctly Italian by design, including hand-blown glass art on the wall and Mediterranean tile behind the counter.
